Coverage
Across the UK
We work across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Tell us where you are and we will confirm the price and timings.
Where are padel courts being built in the UK?
Everywhere, but London and the South East lead. In July 2025 LTA Padel counted 1,000 courts across Britain, with the most in its London and South East region and the fewest in Wales.
| LTA region | Courts |
|---|---|
| London and South East | 297 |
| North and West Midlands | 179 |
| South and South West | 172 |
| North and East Midlands | 153 |
| Central and East | 124 |
| Scotland | 45 |
| Wales | 34 |
Growth has carried on since. By May 2026 the LTA counted 1,825 courts at 551 venues, and construction data firm Barbour ABI recorded 872 padel planning applications between January and July 2026 alone, more than double the 2025 total.
Why does the area matter for a padel court?
Because planning is decided council by council, and councils have reached very different answers on similar schemes. The LTA publishes one set of national cost figures; what changes most from place to place is the planning risk.
A few recent decisions show the range:
- Employment land: Manchester refused eight indoor courts in a Strangeways warehouse to protect employment land, while Birmingham approved eight in a warehouse at Stetchford.
- Green Belt: Barnet, Cambridge and York have each refused schemes on Green Belt grounds, with Barnet approving a revised version once the canopies were removed.
- Temporary permissions: Croydon allowed courts in temporary structures for up to ten years, and Sheffield approved a warehouse centre as a five-year temporary scheme.
- Noise: Harrogate and Bath refused schemes on noise and Redditch officers recommended refusal, while Alderley Edge and Henfield won approval with barriers, hours and lighting conditions.
Each area page sets out what its council has decided, the planning points that matter there and how we approach a build in that place. Our padel court planning permission page covers the rules that apply everywhere.
