Padel is a young building type, so councils judge a padel clubhouse with the same BREEAM, energy and carbon tools they use on offices, homes and public buildings. This page shows that wider work by SustainPlan, the sustainability consultancy in our team: BREEAM ratings up to Outstanding, design stage whole life carbon and materials credits across RIBA stages. For the padel projects themselves, start with the Old Blues RFC padel case study.

4-6 West Hill, Wandsworth: Excellent at planning stage
The London Borough of Wandsworth required a BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment pre-assessment at planning. The pre-assessment scored 83.52%, an Excellent rating. The lesson for padel: when a borough’s local plan names a rating, the pre-assessment is what shows the planning officer the target is reachable before the design is fixed.
Cambridgeshire South Police Station: materials credits across the design stages
SustainPlan worked on BREEAM Mat 01 and Mat 02 with Ingleton Wood from RIBA Stage 2 to Stage 4. These are BREEAM materials credits, the part of the scheme that rewards choices like lower-carbon concrete and recycled-content steel on a padel court enclosure.
Rhigian Residence, Pembrokeshire Coast: whole life carbon rated A
A design stage whole life carbon assessment with LOYN + CO gave the house a cradle-to-grave rating of A, at 459 kgCO2e/m². It shows the method our team applies to a padel clubhouse and court enclosure, where steel and concrete carry most of the carbon.
Where else has the team achieved BREEAM ratings?
Across offices, fit-out, retail, industrial and new construction:
- Dimes Place, Hammersmith: Excellent
- Carnon Downs Garden Centre: Excellent
- Saul D Humphrey LLP office: Excellent
- Barnhill Industrial Estate, Isleham: Very Good
- Mazars fit-out, Edinburgh: Excellent
- New construction, Attleborough: Outstanding
How does this help a padel scheme?
A padel club with a clubhouse is assessed as a new non-domestic building. Where a local plan names a BREEAM rating, the team that has already reached Excellent and Outstanding on other building types knows which credits a padel scheme can realistically earn. See padel BREEAM assessment and padel whole life carbon.
